Well I love love love this piece! I have read a lot of the comments on this piece and I would just like to say KEEP DRAWING! no one bats an eyelid when a (and I quote) "white person" has an aspect of their culture used in a piece of art work, so use all the symbols, clothing and depictions you like, because your work is beautiful!
Ok, uhh... I know this is your work, and your domain, but... The headdress is really making me uncomfortable. It's beautifully designed, and the piece is wonderful, but as a Native American, I feel the need to point out that many people would find this offensive. I understand if you didn't know, lots of people don't, but it bears mention that lots of Natives are upset by people using the headdress arbitrarily. I understand that there is probably much more to this, and I apologize if this seems rude. Sorry, I'll go away now...
The headress is used in a positive manner you should hear fukaris side of the story before you take a side and this picture is about love as she says lower in the comments I feel that as a native American myself many native American would be happy that she connects the two as I am
Okay, 1. You said there are two sides to this by telling someone they should see what Fuki had to say about it. I did. "there's more "fashion" for me in this picture than "history"." That's what I got from her.. And that she doesn't put politics/ethic etc into her art, but love...
2. I swore to emphasize what I was saying..
"They are not a fashion statement." Just doesn't cut it. And doesn't get my point across, obviously..
"They are not a fucking fashion statement." Is a lot more bolder now..
3. Why am I explaining myself? It's the internet.. Everyone's going to swear eventually.. I may come off as aggressive, but adding a few swears in there and it's done. And all WITHOUT HAVING TO PUT THE DAMN CAPS LOCK ON!?!!
Yes, I swear... I have a fucking dirty mouth, but you can still have a foul mouth and still be intelligent.
Of course no one's going to know what the ethnicity of the character is.. I love her art, but there's no diversity.. There's just a bunch of pale characters and art that you see people stealing for their Indie tumblr pages.. So everyone's going to assume her characters are white because that's all she has in her gallery besides fanart and Furries..
This is Racist.. And you're encouraging it by letting her keep this up.. Love IS the purest form of flattery.. It is, but that alone can get the message across without the headdress..
The profession she chose needs more variety and diversity in her art.. But not just that she needs to get information on what she is about to draw, like a professional.. And you're not helping her by kissing her ass and telling her everything she draws is gold.. You're not helping her in the slightness bit.
Once you use curse words you have negated yourself you then lose all credibility IN MY OPINION I did not say everything she does is gold its unique and I believe that when you're an artist you should trust yourself and what they believe is right and wrong not what some people have to say THAT is what I'm saying not that everything is gold because its amazing its "gold" because the ARTIST believes it is gold You can't have a "dirty mouth" and still have a worth while opinion Cursing is different compared to the caps lock because one I am using caps to emphasize not to be aggressive or bring an element of anger and I only use caps because I cannot italicize on my phone I believed I covered everything and again I'm done with you
Oh! Okay! Because it's about fashion and love.. That makes everything better..
I read her statement about this piece.. I get it.. She didn't mean to offend anyone by it, but that's not going to change the fact that it does offend people.. And yes, there are always going to be someone offended by something.. You can't please everyone, but when I see something like this.. It makes me angry. It's not okay..
It's sacred.. Only the Chief of ABORIGINAL/NATIVE AMERICAN tribes can wear it.. With every bead and every feather is meaningful.. You wouldn't wear a turban just because you felt like it, you wouldn't go to the Baule tribe of Africa and take their gold jewelry and horsetail switches, wearing and parading around with them whenever you damn well felt like it would you? No. Because it's offensive.
I come from a Reserve where everyone knows everyone.. A guy I knew, was given a beaded feather by the chief. There was a ceremony and everything... Because he did everything for the community, selflessly, and everyone deemed him worthy of it. It is one of many and someday maybe he would be elected chief.. It meant so much to him that he cried..
They are beautiful, but they are not a fucking fashion statement.. Next you're going say being a 'savage' Native for Halloween is okay, because FREEDOM OF SPEECH.. You're the uneducated one here.. You know nothing of our culture. And when I say our, I mean my culture. I don't think you're aboriginal at all... You'd feel more strongly about something like this.. We hardly have traditions because they've been wiped clean or taken..
I was completely accepting your argument and you almost swayed me UNTIL you cursed again I never said fashion is a good reason I said that I said wearing it because of love is flattering and immitation is the purest form of flattery and again NO ONE KNOWS THE GIRL IN THE PICTURES ETHNICITY
The picture is really pretty ; o ; and the headdress goes nicely with it but at the same time its not very appropriate for the picture. They are only worn by honored Native American men. And are usually earned through brave deeds in battle. Which is why its a bit racist for other races to wear one en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_bonn…
